Managing Project-Specific Details –
Real-time Collaboration Between the Design Professional and Product Specialists

CEU Credit:

1 AIA LU/HSW

Program Description:

This program explores unusual and problematic detailing conditions that go beyond standard manufacturer details for common applications. Through real-world project examples, attendees will analyze how fluid-applied flashing and detailing products can effectively address complex design challenges where traditional peel-and-stick membranes may fall short. The session will also highlight best practices for collaborating with manufacturers to develop custom detailing solutions, ensuring enhanced durability, weather resistance, and long-term building performance. By understanding these advanced techniques, designers can improve the resilience, efficiency, and constructability of their projects.

Learning Objectives:

Explain how architectural drawings are sometimes lacking in structure amenable

to waterproofing and air-barrier detailing.

Demonstrate how simple modifications can greatly enhance constructability

and detailing to prevent water intrusion and air leakage.

Show how to draw air / water barrier details to facilitate use of fluid-applied products

rather than self-adhered membranes and building wrap.

Explain how to work with manufacturers to optimize preparation of

details for implementation by contractors.
