Tour Information

We have planned 5 tours unique to Colorado, showcasing Art, History and Architecture.   
All tours are included with full conference registration or companion registration, but spots are limited. 

 

HISTORIC DENVER WALKING TOUR | APRIL 27| 1:15 PM - 3:45 PM 

Walking tour of Downtown Denver, hosted by Historic Denver that will include the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, 16th Street, Larimer Square, the Denver Performing Arts Center and the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower. Learn about prominent structures not normally accessible to the public and hear fascinating historical stories.

  • Time: 2 hours. 

  • Activity Involved:  Approximately 2.5 miles of walking with some stopping, but few places to sit.  

  • Starting/Ending Location: The Curtis

 

 BASALITE MASONRY MANUFACTURING PLANT| APRIL 28| 8:00 AM - 11:45 AM 

Visit a state-of-the-art masonry production facility and tour the inner workings of the plant.  Highlights include: Technologies in concrete masonry and paver production facilities from materials intake, preparation, storage, handling, mixing, quality assurance/quality control measures and methods of transport to final destination. Tour includes indoor and outdoor spaces.  

  • Time:  4 hours. 

  • Activity Involved:  Walking through plant with optional stair climb to top of aggregate bins.  

  • Starting/Ending Location: The Curtis 

  • Special Notes:   

    1. Comfortable shoes recommended (high heels are not permi7ed and dress shoes are not recommended) as some areas are gravel or could be muddy.  This is active plant and clothes may get dirty.

    2. Required PPE will be provided.  

    3. Masks are currently required on hired bus transportation. Please bring your mask. A limited number of disposable masks will be available. 

    4. 1 AIA CEU/HSW. 

 

EXCELLENCE IN POLISHED CONCRETE | APRIL 28| 1:15 PM - 5:00 PM 

Visit the ACI International Runner Up Decorative Concrete Project of the Year (North American winner) lead by a team of the installer, concrete designer and manufacturer providing the materials. The building is a showcase of many different types and styles of concrete polishing. A second award-winning building will also be visited.  

  • Time:  4 hours.

  • Activity Involved:  3/4 mile walk along Cherry Creek and through the Auraria Campus to tour location, short walk to nearby 
    building and 3/4 mile returning (2 miles total).  The buildings are large and there will be significant walking and standing during the 
    tour.  

  • Starting/Ending Location: The Curtis  

  • Special Notes:   

    1. Transportation can be arranged for a7endees who may have difficulty walking to the buildings.  Please email Robin Snyder

 CLYFFORD STILL MUSEUM & HISTORY CO CENTER | APRIL 28| 1:15 PM - 5:00 PM 

Spend an afternoon visiting two dynamic, but separate, locations (with option to spend all your time at just one location).   The award-winning Clyfford Still Museum was designed specifically to showcase the legacy of Clyfford Still, an artist whose life has been shrouded in mystery and whose work has mostly been hidden from public view for decades.  This facility is home to nearly everything Clyfford Still created and this art can only be seen in Denver. During our customized tour you will see the unique artistic vision uncompromised for money or recognition and our tour will include back-of-house areas, processes and an overview of the architectural beauty of the museum building.  

History Colorado Center intermingles artifacts, stories and art to tell the tale of Colorado and the American West. The museum consists of over fifteen
exhibits spanning four floors, capturing the spirit of Colorado including “Building Denver” and “Brick & Soul”. Our custom tour will guide you through the facility and exhibits.

  • Time: 3-1/2 to 4 hours. 

  • Activity Involved:  Walk to and from public transportation and between buildings approximately 0.5 mile each way. There will be additional walking and standing during the tour with occasional stools/benches for resting. Limited wheelchairs available at each site. 

  • Starting Location: The Curtis.  A7endees can return to the Curtis following the tours, or stay longer on your own 

  • Special Notes:   

    1. Transportation can be arranged for a7endees who have difficulty walking to the museum.  Please email Robin Snyder

    2. The Clyfford Still Museum is currently requiring visitors to show proof of vaccination. We will update this policy if it changes, but 
      please only sign up for this tour if you can comply with this requirement.   

    3. Masks are currently required on public transportation and both facilities require masks during the tour. Please bring your mask. A limited number of disposable masks will be available. 

 

COLORADO RAILROAD MUSEUM | APRIL 29| 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM 

Travel by bus to Golden, CO for a personalized tour of this famous museum.  Tour includes a steam engine train ride, walking tour of 15 acre railyard with 100 narrow and standard gauge steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, Galloping Geese and Denver Garden Railway Society G-scale railway. There is an on-site museum and store, library, roundhouse (featuring on-going repairs), operating HO railroad model, interpretive signs for exploration, video presentation and themed rotating exhibits.  

  • Time:  3-1/2 - 4 hours (depending on traffic, tour timing may overlap with buffet lunch). 

  • Activity Involved:  Approximately 1/2 mile through museum and railyard, with options for less walking.   

  • Starting/Ending Location: The Curtis 

  • Special Notes:   

    1. Comfortable shoes recommended (high heels are not permi7ed and dress shoes are not recommended) as some areas are gravel or could be muddy. 

    2. Dress for the various weather conditions as some areas are unconditioned and outside.

    3. The Museum is currently requesting visitors wear a mask during the tour. Masks are currently required on hired bus transportation and the train ride. Please bring your mask. A limited number of disposable masks will be available.
