So your project failed a building test – Now what?

Program Description:

The plurality of projects will fail a required test during construction. Although this is common, the consequence of a failed test are almost never discussed before testing. Was it a design flaw, install flaw, both, or testing flaw? Who pays for the repair? Who pays for the re-testing or cost of delayed construction? The presenter will cover several case studies were a project failed mandatory testing. He will give real project examples of both positive and negative responses by the project team and owner to the failed testing. He will show how the issues were resolved (or not resolved), by whom, when, and who paid for it. The presenter will provide examples on how every party should respond to achieve the best project delivery.

Learning Objectives:

Learn how to define a successful outcome before testing begins and how to get buy-in from all parties.

Learn how to respond to a failed system or component test during construction. Learn best practices on how to best document the failure and the next steps for the general contractor, sub-contractor, and testing company.

Learn how to achieve a “passing” test and how to get consensus on who pays for the repair and additional testing fees.

Learn from real-world case studies how different project teams and owners have handled failed tests, including both effective and ineffective responses, to better anticipate challenges and implement proactive solutions for smoother project delivery.
