Program Description:
A summary presentation of the Block Design Collective, a nationally funded program by the Concrete Masonry Checkoff for the direct promotion, education and design assistance of concrete masonry to the architects, engineers, contractors and owners in the building industry. We will learn how block can achieve style, savings, sustainability, safety and growth. We will also review where the concrete masonry industry stands in the market, where it needs to be to continue the growth within the industry, and how the Block Design Collective can help both nationally and regionally.
Learning Objectives:
Explore the aesthetic versatility of concrete masonry units in various design styles.
Analyze relative construction costs of CMU and other factors that contribute to total building life-cycle costs.
Identify factors that contribute to life-cycle embodied carbon and introduce carbon sequestration.
Investigate the capabilities of CMU towards meeting fire and life safety goals.

Tino is an experienced structural engineer with a diverse background in design, support and education of various building materials. With a passion to utilize building materials responsibly and efficiently, he dedicates his career to educating the building community on optimizing structures. Tino is available for design assistance from concept design through construction and can be utilized as a resource for technical and learning purposes.
